Review~A Hero’s Heart~Amber Daulton

Ten years ago, Jarrett Brandt left home and abandoned everyone of importance. After a hard reality check, the irresponsible young man matured into a ballsy DEA agent with a kickass Harley Davidson and a million-dollar bounty on his head. Ordered by his superior officer to take refuge at a safe house just days before Christmas, he headed back home to Washington State, instead, to make peace with his deceased brother’s memory.

Marissa Reinn Brandt never expected to see Jarrett again. Best friends since childhood and lovers as teenagers, immaturity, over-demanding parents and illicit drugs ripped them apart. Now a successful chef at a posh restaurant, the young widow and her son offered Jarrett a place to stay for the holiday. Even though she expected nothing from her former lover—the twin brother of the man she married—fate intervened.

As Jarrett and Marissa rekindled the flames of love and lust that once bound them together, an enemy from his past and a trusted mentor from his present vied their time in the snowy dark and threatened to destroy everyone he held dear. Needing a Christmas miracle to save his family, Jarrett needed the love of a good woman to save his battered heart. His second chance with Marissa meant the world to him and nothing, no one, would stand in his way of cherishing her for all time.

A Hero’s Heart by Amber Daulton- Review 3.5 stars
For a “Christmas story”, A Hero’s Heart sure has a lot of action. The exciting kind, and the sexy kind. Jarrett left home 10 years ago to flee a strained relationship with his parents and to deal with his own drug addiction. He learns that his twin brother died five years ago, and he goes home to make peace with his brother’s memory. He finds that the love of his life who he left behind when he fled married his twin and had a child with him. He and Marissa quickly realize that time and distance has not altered their intense feelings for one another.

Jarrett realizes that he would love nothing more than to re-connect with his family, re-connect with Marissa, and take care of his nephew. The reality is that after kicking his drug addiction, he was recruited by the DEA and has been working deep undercover and now there are some powerful scary people after him, and now also likely after the people he loves the most.

Watching Jarrett and Marissa re-connect and see their passion for one another give them both what they very much need was really touching. As was watching Jarrett and his very emotionally distant father find some common ground and forgive one another for the hurtful things they have said and done in the past. Christmas is occurring in the background of this exciting and touching story.

My mind is a wonderland of romance, laughter and really awesome ways of kicking a guy when he’s down. Writing is my passion and I probably wouldn’t be too sane without it. After all, what’s a girl to do when there are people jabbering away in her head and there’s no way to shut them up? Write! That’s the only answer I’ve found that works.

I live in the lovely foothills of North Carolina with my supportive husband, Greg, and five fuzzy, little ninjas (our kitties)! The first thing most people notice about me is my quick, sarcastic wit. As a fan of contemporary, paranormal and historical novels alike, I just can’t get enough of sassy heroines and brooding heroes. Writing romance takes up most of my time, aside from my day job in the retail industry. Luckily, my husband doesn’t mind cooking most nights. I also enjoy hiking, gardening, painting, watching movies and scrap-booking when a serious case of writer’s block bogs me down.

Review~Misled~Kathryn Kelly

He deals in a world of violence, sex, drugs, and crudity. As president of the Death Dwellers’ MC, Christopher “Outlaw” Caldwell presides over a club in chaos after the death of their longtime president and his mentor, Joseph “Boss” Foy.

Megan Foy runs from her abusive stepfather, hoping for her daddy’s intervention to save her and get her terrified mother away before it’s too late. Only problem is, she soon discovers her beloved daddy is dead and the man who killed him is the man she’s falling in love with.

I really liked this book and it had me wanting to keep reading and not put it down – so why the 3.5 stars you ask? Well….let me tell you a bit about the book 1st.

Here is the blurb

‘He deals in a world of violence, sex, drugs, and crudity.

Only problem is, she soon discovers her beloved daddy is dead and the man who killed him is the man she’s falling in love with.’

The 1st chapter of this book was very graphic in terms of the abuse Megan and her mum suffer.  This was similar to what I grew up with so was very close to home and led to me having to put the book down and come back to it.

Once we meet the MC and the guys there, it got better for me.

I liked the flow of the story, loved Megan’s spirit and how she always stayed strong , no matter what was happening in her life.  She has had to deal with abuse towards her, seeing her mum being abused, being homeless after she chose to run, being beat up on the streets for stealing and she still stands her ground for what she believes in.

Chris – yeah I fell for him – although he has this very tough exterior, he shows glimpses of a much softer side when he is with Megan and you can feel the chemistry coming through when they are together.

The pace of the book felt good – not too slow and not too fast, covered questions that were raised at the start and I really liked how it ended.

So what caused the drop of 1.5 stars?

The language – I have no experience of a MC but all the use of the ‘f***’ word was to me very excessive – and put me off somewhat – it was like every 2nd/3rd word at some points.  The fact that every girl in the MC is a ‘bitch’ also got to me too – and made some of the sex scenes between Chris and Megan degrading.

Kathryn’s writing was really good and I would def read more by her as she scooped me up and swept me along with her story, she made me fall in love with her characters and gripped me til the end.

Forever My Girl (The Beaumont Series, #1)

I was never supposed to be a rock star. I had my life all planned out for me. Play football in college. Go to the NFL. Marry my high school sweetheart and live happily ever after.

After ten years.

I hope I can explain that after all this time.

Love is like an avalanche. It hits hard, fast and without mercy.

At least it did for me when Sculpt, the lead singer of the rock band Tear Asunder knocked me off my feet. Literally, because he’s also a fighter, illegally of course, and he taught me how to fight. He also taught me how to love and I fell hard for him. I mean the guy could do sweet, when he wasn’t doing bossy, and I like sweet.

Then it all shattered.

I was alone and fighting to survive.

When I heard Sculpt’s voice, I thought he was there to save me. I was wrong.

*Warning: This book contains some disturbing situations, strong language and sexual content. Over 18 years.

This is a love story with some dark elements. No cliffhanger and next in the Tear Asunder series is Ream’s story.
