HARD AS IT GETS~ LAURA KAYE ~ @laurakayeauthor 5 STAR REVIEW~

Hard As It Gets (Hard Ink, #1)

Tall, dark, and lethal…

Trouble just walked into Nicholas Rixey’s tattoo parlor. Becca Merritt is warm, sexy, wholesome–pure temptation to a very jaded Nick. He’s left his military life behind to become co-owner of Hard Ink Tattoo, but Becca is his ex-commander’s daughter. Loyalty won’t let him turn her away. Lust has plenty to do with it too.

With her brother presumed kidnapped, Becca needs Nick. She just wasn’t expecting to want him so much. As their investigation turns into all-out war with an organized crime ring, only Nick can protect her. And only Becca can heal the scars no one else sees.

Desire is the easy part. Love is as hard as it gets. Good thing Nick is always up for a challenge..

First off let me just say WOW. I was pretty excited to read this book and let me just say that it didn’t disappoint!

Nick Rixey is a broken solider. After spending 10 years of his life serving in the Army Special Forces, Nick finds himself living a mundane life. That is until Becca Merritt walks into his life. When his ex-commander’s daughter walks into the tattoo shop he and his brother own looking for help trying to find her brother, Nick world is set to collide with the past that has been haunting him. The last person Nick wants to help is the daughter of his ex-commander. Overcome by a sense of protectiveness, Nick can’t get Becca out of his mind leading him to help her being to piece together a puzzle left behind by her brother.

As Nick and Becca begin to piece together this puzzle, Nick’s world is turned upside down in more ways than one. As the pieces begin to fall into place, Nick must not only face his growing feelings for Becca, but also must face the team that he once called brothers to help him protect Becca and solve the mystery tied to the man who ruined his life.

I was instantly drawn into this book, not only by its powerful characters, but by the story itself. This book is so much more than a hot and steamy romance. Both Nick and Becca are strong characters that give the story so much depth. Nick is a wounded solider looking for light in a world he fills is full of darkness. Becca is that light, showing so much strength and selflessness as she tries to piece together a puzzle she never knew she was tied to.

Laura Kaye does an amazing job weaving passion and love into a story full of secrets and lies. She has compiled an amazing cast of characters in which to build this series on. I love series books where a cast of characters will be featured in their own books. What makes this series to unique is that while there was somewhat of a resolution for Nick and Becca, the story is not finished, not even close. I think some would see this book’s ending as a cliffhanger, while for me it was more just the beginning to the story. I love the idea of Laura writing about this amazing cast of characters, where we get to learn about each one of them in their own book, but with each book building on the story that started with Nick and Becca in Hard As It Gets.

I found this book to be complete addictive and hard to put down. If you are looking for a series to become completely attached to, this is it.
